[HANASHIR:15056] Re: cantorial certification

I have enjoyed the spectrum of comments on this topic.

Like many of you, I have been drawn increasingly into Jewish life and Jewish
music, but have no qualification other than being a good musician. I learn
what I can from books, courses and discussion. What I have discovered is
that there is a shortage of liturgical music courses that are between the
extremely basic level and the fully professional level. I don't want to
become a Cantor or a Rabbi, but I would like to accelerate my learning in a
systematic way. I'm happy being a lay leader and Torah reader, I just want
to know more.

To music educators reading this, please consider the growing number of us in
this position. We are good at the practice of Jewish music of all sorts,
and we want to learn more about it. But we have no interest in replacing or
usurping our Rabbis and Cantors and no interest in reaching those titles.

And if those courses exist and I missed finding them, please put me right.

Jonathan.
