Hello to all--
My Rabbi and I have been puzzled about this prayer. There seems to be two ways
of saying/singing a word in it. We've found both ways in song and in
prayerbooks. Some say, in Hebrew and English, uvashivi'I, while others say
v'hashivi'I. (I can't lowercase the last "I" in either word.) Can someone
shed some light on the reason for these two versions? The former seems to be
in more traditional settings, while the latter in Reform/Conservative sources.
I realize there is only a minor change in meaning, but why the change? When
the change? And does anyone know the original text from which this prayer
came? One little word, so many questions....
Thanks for whatever insights come!
