[HANASHIR:14707] Re: secular music

I apologize for responding to this thread without having thoroughly read
all the responses but - well - I have a life to live.

I think that one of the things we do as Jewish educators is model how we
integrate our secular world with our Jewish world. I think a song
leader interjecting secular music into their program is equivalent to
the rabbi mentioning popular television shows or current events in their
sermons or classes, either to make a specific point OR just to remind
everyone the he/she lives in the same world as all of the rest of us.
Certainly finding a Jewish meaning in secular material is an appropriate
liberal approach.

I think we need to let our song leaders have their own styles and to be
themselves because it is by putting themselves out there fully that they
will be the most effective and be the best models of Jewish living.

Thanks,

Ruth
