[HANASHIR:14623] Milikin Project

Friends -- I might have missed the origin of this Milkin discussion .... I
just received a ten-hour video in the mail, and haven't looked at it yet.

But what I can contribute is that I was involved distantly in a few places
along the way, but have no idea if anything came to fruition .... at the
2001 NFTY Convention in LA (or was it 1999?) the Milkin people came to
interview some folks about NFTY and Jewish Youth Music ... they interviewed
Dan Freelander and others, taped some songsessions, spoke to Bruce Benson
and to me and a few others, as well as some participants to discuss the
influence of Jewish youth music on their lives ... I coordinated getting
folks in front of the mic. In addition, having written my thesis on Music
as Community building, based on ethnomusicologist and sociologists work on
music in group building, as well as what happens at camp through the music,
to connect to synagogues and how cantors and music leaders can use what
happens at camp as a resource to building music in our communities, I was
asked to share it with someone there. But again, I don't know if any of it
was used.

So this is just to say that at least in preparing the project, some
attention was paid in preparation to Jewish youth and camping music!

Take care!
Warmly
