Dear Colleagues,
I have just come across a terrific teaching resource. It is a book called
Shironi that comes with 2 double CDs. The 5 x 8 spiral bound book contains 75
songs -- traditional as well as modern Israeli -- for everyday life and for
Jewish festivals and celebrations. In the book is the actual notated music for
each song with guitar chords and the lyrics in Hebrew, English and
transliteration. Accompanying the book are two double CDs!! The first CD set
contains all of the songs performed by singers to help you pronounce the words
correctly and learn the tunes. The second CD set contains just the
instrumentals so that you can have your very own Jewish karaoke.
I have never seen anything like this resource and think it is a wonderful tool
for schools in particular. Many of the 75 songs are familiar like the trad.
Adon Olam, Chitman's Adon Olam, Zeira's Lecha Dodi, Shalom Aleichem, Eliyahu
Hanavi, D'ror Yikra, Hatikvah (with the "bat"), Lach Yerushalayim, Tzur
Mishelo, Avinu Malkeynu, Maoz Tzur, Y'mei HaChanukah, S'vivon, Mi Yemalel,
Hashkediya, Mayim, Ani Purim, Ma Nishtana, Avadim Hayinu, Dayenu, Ani Ma'amin,
Ashrei Hagafrur, Kachol V'lavan, Eretz, Hora Medura, Eretz Zavat Chalav,
etc..... The book is very well organized with large print and cute color
pictures drawn by children throughout.
Shironi is a labor of love by Ruti Worrall who has conducted the choir at North
Cheshire Jewish Primary School in England since 1980. Ruti has done a
magnificent job on this project and it is really something that should be in
every Jewish singer's and every Jewish school's resource library. In fact,
many schools have purchased multiple copies to use as the basis for their music
programs.
I was so taken with this project, that I asked Ruti if I could help her market
it here in the US. So, for a limited time, you will be able to order Shironi
with a credit card by clicking on the link at the bottom of this e-mail. The
cost of the book with 2 double CDs is $45 plus $5 s/h.
If you are planning a music program for your school for the coming year, this
is a great tool. The added bonus is the sound track CDs that allow children to
sing along with full accompaniment.

Ruti is also planning to be at the CAJE Conference in Ohio this summer and will
be selling Shironi in the Exhibit area. Order it now or get it at CAJE.
