God Bless America was written by Irving Berlin. America the Beautiful was
written by Katherine Lee Bates and was written at the top of Pike's Peak.
FYI, Many people wanted to adapt God Bless America as the national anthem,
however Irving Berlin refused.

> Ah, Jeff, too much time in gloomy Chicago and now gloomy New England. My
apartment at the south of Denver showed me the full glory of the front range
of the Rockies from my 3rd floor north-facing deck and let me tell you about
purple mountains! The author of God Bless America wrote it from atop Pike's
Peak so I bet she saw a few herself.
