Hi 

thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.  I obtained something called the "Amp Can" 
from Fender.  It's battery operated. (a charge will last about 4-5 hours), 
and it has two quarter inch inputs.  One for mic and one for instrument.

I needed it for a strolling music gig at Navy Pier in Chicago.  It was great. 
 I had to buy a wired headset microphone.  But then I was totally portable.  
And in situations with a lot of background noise it was great.  I hope this
