[HANASHIR:14048] Re: songs to honor a retiring head of school

Hello,

Here are the lyrics to Danny Maseng's "Asseh L'cha Rav" which will be
recorded on his upcoming CD -- due out by summer. This piece was
commissioned by Mt. Zion in St. Paul to honor two of their rabbis (Misha
Zinkow & Elka Abrahamson) who were leaving. Danny has woven the Hebrew text
with the English lyrics. I think it would be equally meaningful for a
retiring teacher/clergy and for those beginning their sacred duties as well!

Danny's sheet music is available at www.dannymaseng.com and an MP3 of the
song, will be added to the site in the next week or so.

I'm including the lyrics and attaching the sheet music for anyone interested.

B'vracha,
Terry

Asseh L'cha Rav
Music and Lyrics by: D. Maseng (c) 2000

1. Asseh L'cha Rav u'kne L'cha chaver
    May every word you teach
    Be sweet as honey
May every soul you reach become a friend
May words of wisdom, be your companions
    And everywhere you travel
    May you travel with sh'china

    Refrain:

        Chorus: Soloist:
        A River flows
        A gate is open
A sacred journey goes on and on
And flowers grow across the meadow
        After the rain is gone

Heye Adam Nivrah b'tzelem
Be kind and gentle Heye Adam
Im chen v'chessed v'rachamim With mercy and with love
May every friend become your teacher Has'kel mikol Adam
Zohi Torat chayim Zohi Torat chayim

2. Eizehu chacham - halomed mikol Adam
    May every lesson learned
    Be taught with patience
May every friendship earned be tried and true
    And may your life be
    A source of healing
And pray that when you teach
    You'll always teach
    Torah lishma

    Last Refrain:

        A River flows
        A gate is opened
A sacred journey has just begun
And stars will shine across the heavens
        After the rain is gone

Heye Adam Moreh v'reah
Become a blessing Heye bracha
L'chen v'chessed v'livracha With compassion and with grace
And every soul will be your teacher Heye tamim b'chol d'rachecha
Zohi Tora t'mima Zohi Tora t'mima

            Bridge:

            May all your dreams
            And all your wishes
Be light as eagles and swift as deer
May all your kindness be remembered
                Long after you're not here
