[HANASHIR:13743] Re: regional conventions

Dear Friends,

If you would like to attend conventions and training workshops that you can't
afford, a wonderful route to look into is speaking to your temple's board,
rabbi and/or cantor. The rabbi and cantor often have discretionary funds from
which they may pay for or subsidize your attending. The religious school and
the board, understanding the value of what will be returned to their community
by their investment in you, may find a sponsor or a fund at the temple that can
help to pay...don't rule these things out until you seek out the help. Though
I have not yet attended the HaNashir workshop in Oconomowoc (I will some
year)....I have been attending ACC\GTM, WCN and choral festival for about 10
years...what I reap from each and every convention is invaluable....

Shalom All,

I am always eager to attend any kind of event that will enhance my
knowledge and expertise in the field. Unfortunately, as was expressed by
another listserv member, I, too, cannot afford the expense of attending
these wonderful events. I don't really know how that can be remedied. Maybe
I'm making a huge generalization, but for some reason it seems that most
Jewish communities are quite strapped for money, as are many of us as
working musicians.

I would love to see more action on the (North) Eastern side of the US.
Having said that, I just received a brochure for the summer Kallah that
will actually take place only 45-minutes from my home, but I still cannot
expect to attend due to financial constraints.

I am not sure that just because an event will take place so close to home
it will help the situation. What really can be done? I don't know. Sorry to
sound so pessimistic, but this is my reality.
