Sheesh Jeff!

I was thinking the whole time I was on my way to the airport that some
zealous safety official would take my strings for their garrote-like
properties, but it never happened.
I was just recently with NFTY at their convention and the tandem Youth
Workers Conference, flying into Reagan (DCA) on American Airlines. I had no
problems whatsoever, including packing extra strings in the case... battery
inside the instrument... implements of destruction?? Sorry to hear about
your experience. Reminds me of your famous line from Holy Land Special
("...ya see he's smashin' my guitar, 'cause he thinks it's a gun. I just
wanna play my music, don't wanna hurt anyone.")
