Whoops -- you are right, and I sincerely apologize for the above mistake. 
Yes, he won in 1979 for Gotta Serve Somebody.

My criticism still holds however -- after his truly landmark albums (noted
above), for his first win to be "Gotta Serve Somebody" is absurd.
