My understanding is that in the old Reform siddurs, all the verses which
mentioned, or had anything to do with, the desctuction of the Temple, or
that it would be rebuilt, or anything to do with the coming of Moshiach,
was excized -- so that left four verses remaining.

(Although, now that I think about it, I have a vague recollection that the
Old Union Prayerbook had only three verses . . . am I remembering
correctly?)
