[HANASHIR:13097] Re: Jewish Music Research Center at HU

Thanks, Jeff! A stunning example of adaptation and the power of musical
style. Which I'd had it on hand for a workshop I gave on Israeli Music
last month!

I recently assembled a similar comparison-not of the same song, but same
composer. A file that seques from Tzvika Pik's "Sh'ma" to his "Diva"
that he wrote and with which Dana International won the 2000 Eurovision
contest. Great way to shake people out of the belief that Pik's Sh'ma is
any more mi-Sinai than Lewandowski's or Sulzer's.

While the site itself is on the dry side, geared towards academic
scholarship, you MUST go and check out the "Song of the Month" (I'll
leave it a surprise) which is accompanied by a fascinating story
reflecting the extent of Jewish music evolution in the modern era. It's
an ear opener to be sure.
