[HANASHIR:13005] P.S. - funding

Funding is always going to be an issue. And no matter how much we say that
"well, the money is there", access is the key.

A Jewish community fund (ie: through the local Federation), supports so many
organizations in need that don't have the resources that a school does. For
example, the Jewish battered women and family shelters, Israel educational
services, camps, outreach, school is one of the few things that is a)
already provided for through taxes and b) is technically able to support
itself. If a parent really wants to send their kids to private day school,
and we say that all this money is out there, then they can choose to make
their donation to the community in that way, where it benefits them. Or what
about all of the kids? Our day school has the kids fundraise for their own
education. The battered women, they can't do that. To take money away from
another organization or cause that doesn't have the options that a school
has...I guess it's a matter of personal opinion.
