Our board decided not to allow nonmembers to participate in the choir just
before I joined the choir. I don't think the choir was consulted, but I'm
not sure.
My only suggestion on how to deal with Temple Boards and the apparently
arbitrary decisions that they make without input from the involved parties,
is to get involved. The more choir members and active service participants
you have on the board, the better chance the board will understand that point
of view. This doesn't protect the congregation from bad board decisions, but
at least there may be an opportunity for your voice to be heard. I speak
from painful experience. As a former board member I was able to do some good
for my congregation. There were also bad things that I wasn't able to
prevent. It still stings when I think about it.
Good luck.
