[HANASHIR:12878] Re: request for satb on all levels

No, Edward, I do not live in Montreal, Quebec - but in St. Albert Alberta -
a small city neighbouring Edmonton. Like Montreal, our public system is
Catholic School Board (reflecting the founding community established by
Father Lacombe) and the separate board is the Protestant School Board.

Although the Catholic school board does not turn any student away, it does
includes obligatory religious instructions for all students. The symbols of
their religion are evident in all aspects of the schools and their
curricula.

The Protestant school board is supposed to be more welcoming for all the
students. There is no religious instruction in the Protestant system. As
St. Albert has become more multicultural, and the school officials have
become more aware of the diversity that is growing in this community, the
Protestant School Board has become more sensitive to its obligations. It is
getting better here.

We have done our bit to educate the educational system over the years. We
worked with (or should I say, battled) more than one teacher, principal and
parents' council.

All of our children have graduated from the local school system. And our
oldest daughter, Melanie still sings like an angel. She is presently
studying voice in NY and is working on her Masters in Performance.

Karen
(who is looking forward to
visiting her daughter in NY in January)
;-}
