Ellen,
Yours is not the only synagogue moving away from choirs singing each
Shabbat. That being said, you need to avoid the possibility of your Board
making unilateral decisions without consultation.  It may be a good idea to
establish a Ritual and Choir Committee where ideas on music and prayer can
be aired.    The choir director, cantorial soloist and music director, if
there is one, should be on the committee.
