Did the board consult your choir at all when it made that decision? Like you I
also have been volunteering for years almost every saturday amongst other loyal
volunteer singers. One is a non Jewish professional who has been with us for
years and years and years, but that is not the current issue in our case. The
issue is that in our case, the board decided that the choir who comes most
shabbat morning during the entire year for the more than 50 years or more (not
all the same people, lol) and wants to be there should only sing once a month,
for various reasons I as well as other choir members and other congregational
members I have spoken with do not understand. The choir was never consulted
for their input on this issue. We were totally bypassed and suprised with this
decision on a shabbat morning before services. I think this is a very poor
approach to the over all picture of what religion and Jewish music is all
about. Why is it that temple boards seem to be so adep!
t at causing strife and hard feelings instead of more community?
