[HANASHIR:12727] Re: Krystal Nacht song

Julie,
I was under the impression that that song was writen, not fro a concentration
camp, but from the Krakow ghetto,as an attempt to emulate the bugle boy from
the bell tower at the city's center and to express a sense of forshadowing for
what few wanted to believe was to come. All in all,a very fitting kristalnacht
song.

Although it's in Yiddish and not in German, the song "S'brent" comes to
mind. It was written by Mordechai Gebertig in a concentration camp. In
essence it says, "It's burning, brothers, it's burning - our poor town/city is
in flames..........and you/we stand helpless while our city burns."
