[HANASHIR:12497] Re: Music quote for ark

 Judy,

This song is called "Everything Possible" and it is composed by Fred Small.
It is available on his album "Everything Possible: Fred Small in Concert."
Also the words and lyrics can be found in his songbook or in Rise Up
 Singing.

Fred Small was, for over a decade, a Cambridge based folk singer/songwriter
who has somewhere around a dozen albums out. He was called by Pete Seger
something like, "one of the best songwriters in the country." I encourage
people to listen to his music much of which has spiritual and/or
progressive
political themes and some of which are specifically about Judaism. For
instance, he has an incredibly powerful song about how the people of
Denmark
saved the Jews during the Holocaust (called "Denmark 1943" on his album "I
will Stand Fast") and another about the incident that happened in (I think)
Colarado where there was an anti-semitic attack on a synagogue or on a
Jewish family's home during Channukah and the entire city (Jews and
non-Jews
alike) ended up putting menorahs in their windows so that Jewish homes
could
not be distinguished (on his most recent album Only Love).

Anyway, Fred gave up the life of a folk singer a few years ago and went to
Harvard Divinity school. He is now a Unitarian/Universalist Minister in
Massachusetts. But his albums still have fairly wide circulation. You
should
be able to find them at Tower Records or other places along those lines
(certainly at Amazon) or he has a website www.fredsmallmusic.com. His best
albums, IMHO, are Everything Possible, I will Stand Fast, and The Heart of
the Appaloosa. Only Love is not a great album but that one song may be
worth
 the price.

Note that the song Everything Possible is in D but if you use it I suggest
tuning your guitar to Drop-D tuning (just tune the low E string down to a
D)
you will find the guitar accopianament sounds much richer. This is also how
it is played on the album.

 best,

 Ethan
