[HANASHIR:12361] Re: kadosh kadosh kadosh

Ellen,
According to a notation on the Kedushah in "The Complete Artscroll Siddur":

"Kedushah, Sanctification, expresses the concept that God is exalted above
and separated from the limitations of material existence. When a minyan
(quorum of 10) is present, it becomes the representative of the nation and
echoes the angels who sing God's praise by proclaiming His holiness and
glory. We do this by reciting Kedushah, a prayer based on that of the angels
themselves, and with feet together, in the manner of the angels (Ezekiel
1:7). When reciting the words -- 'kadosh, kadosh, kadosh'; and 'yimloch' --
we rise up on our toes to symbolize that we seek to break loose from the
bonds of earth and unite our service with that of the angels."

(By the way, the Artscroll Siddur does spell out "God" -- no hyphen to
replace the "o." Interesting, since it's regarded as an "Orthodox" siddur.)
