[HANASHIR:11715] Re: complete shireinu - binding hints

Dear Chevrei,

As Project Manager/Typesetter on the Complete Shireinu, I felt I should
answer the glob of emails recently posted about the binding of CS. This is
my personal statement, and shouldn't be construed in any way to reflect on
Transcon.

When doing their market research, Transcon made it a distinct point to ask
the HN group what features the book MUST have. The most common was that the
book must stay open on a music stand or podium. Since the book was so huge,
the only option that was both marketable to all audiences and practical at
the same time, was the double wire binding it has now (incidentally, they
printed it in Israel). Transcon sells not only to the Jews, but also to
secular audiences, schools and Christian markets, and the three-ring binder
format is NOT marketable.

Hope that explains some of why this has been happening. You'll be happy to
know that plans are in the works to issue a new edition which is "lay-flat
bound", in other words, bound just like any of your other paperback books
but glued in a certain way that stays open a bit more.

We're glad that you as the prime users of CS are pleased with its inner
contents, which of course is the most important thing. Your voices have been
heard, so, please, let's now keep the ca-ca to ourselves.

B'shalom uv'shirah,
- Eric
