these 2 lines would meet with blank stares and puzzled expressions from my 
students here in Dallas!  (well, ok..... once every 2 years or so we get a 
half inch of snow and the city shuts down for half a day cuz no one knows how 
to drive on slick roads and we don't have plows here...but snowSTORMS?  what 
are those?)
