Scott, I don't think my answer will be too helpful as we don't do
tradiditional B'nai Mizvot. After a year's worth of study, the parents and
child write their own service. They pick out the music often in conjunction
with me.

Chavera,
I'd like to conduct an informal survey from the group on how much
choice the B'nai Mitzvot are afforded in the music used in their
ceremonies.
Do they select the versions, style, instrumentation, genre, or even
vocalists/soloists for the songs used in either or both of Friday night
and Saturday morning services? Or, do they largely have no influence
on the music for their services?
I bring this up because I would like to propose exactly this for my
synagogue, and I'd like to know how most other synagogues are
addressing this.
Thank you
