[HANASHIR:11426] Re: Arab Peace Songs

I do not have any real argument with you Chuck, but I
would like you to know that my friends in Israel, all
of whom are from the old Peace Now camp and have
always been willing to talk about and with
Palestinians, are reporting to me that the refuseniks
movement is actually quite minimal, and never picked
up as expected. In fact, people have been volunteering
for service, something not seen in quite a while in
Israel on any large scale. This is obviously not
newsworthy for most of the media. I think it is good
to remind ourselves that Israel is fighting for it's
survival, on many fronts right now, and this is the
way it is perceived by a majority of the people who
actually live there.
I do appreciate that you and so many of us are giving
a good hard think to events there now, how they effect
us, how we should represent them to out students and
neighbors, and how to avoid the usual pitfalls of
misinformation. I encourage us all to continue, to
discuss, to share (perhaps not always on this list).
Thank you,
Ilana Axel
