[HANASHIR:11389] RE: volunteer choir rehearsal attendance

Lateness is a pain with volunteer choirs. However, if they miss the
first 5-10 minutes, they miss! What can you do? At least they're
coming. One thing that has helped my choir is that I make practice
tapes for everyone. Yes it's time consuming, but worth it. They listen
in the car on the way to work and home and they say how helpful it is.
I either charge them $3 for a dubbed tape, or if they provide me with a
good tape, I just keep adding new songs to it. I tell them to have it
"cued up" so that I don't have to waste my time fast forwarding, etc.
But these practice tapes are good for ANY age choir. I also do it with
my middle school and young kids' choirs.

Subject: [HANASHIR:11384] volunteer choir rehearsal attendance

I'm interested in the volunteer choir thread of discussion, which seems
to reinforce that temple choirs have a great deal in common with each
other. I started out being pretty stern about attendance, but now that
I have gotten to know these lovely people, I tend to be understanding
when they have to miss a rehearsal. In the spring I notice a tendency
for people to miss rehearsals. I put it down to fatigue from the year's
work (we start our season with the HHD's), but still, it's discouraging.
I'd like to hear from other choir directors as to how they deal with
this and also with members arriving late.

Thanks,
Rachelle
