Folks,
Traditional prayers sung to non-traditional - to put it mildly - tunes are a
fun Purim thing. Here, for example, is Mi Chamocha to the tune of the
Mickey Mouse Club theme song.
Mi Chamocha, mi chamocha ba-eilim, Adonai
MEM-YUD-KAF, MEM-YUD-KAF, YUD-KAF-MEM-KAF-HEI
Mi kamocha, mi kamocha ne'edar ba-kodesh
MEM-YUD-KAF, MEM-YUD-KAF, YUD-KAF-MEM-KAF-HEI
Mi chamocha, mi chamocha
Nora tehilot, osei fele, SEI-FE-LE
Kum mit unz un zing a lid mit di gantze mishpocho
MEM-YUD-KAF, MEM-YUD-KAF, YUUUD KAAAF MEMMM KAAAF HEEEEEEEEEEEI.
MI CHAMOCHA!
One prayer which is very amenable to this treatment is the Chatzi Kaddish,
because of its rhythmic nature - Yit-gadal v'yit-kadash, etc. I've sung it
successfully to Hernando's Hideaway and to Madonna's Material Girl (use the
latter only in heavily Gen-X congregations).
That gives you some idea of what you can do. Use your imagination and think
of some combinations yourself, or maybe others will have some ideas in
response to this posting.
