[HANASHIR:10909] Re: Adon Olam to Rock Around the Clock

In an Orthodox prayer book Adon Olam appears at the beginning, prior to the
official morning service, before P'suki D'zimra, even before Shema. It's
stuck in with the morning blessings. Someone who knows the evolution of
prayer in the Reform synagogue or the history of synagogue music may be able
to share with us when it graduated to the status of closing hymn. The
wonderful version I grew up singing was a tune that wanted to stop me from
praying so maybe it's designation as a closing hymn was not only deliberate
but rather appropriate.
