Elana (and everyone),
I am very flattered to hear that "The Tree Song" is your favorite Tu
B'shevat Song! I had meant to send an email our earlier this month offering
lyrics, chords, music and the mp3, and your note reminded me that I didn't
get a chance to do that yet. So before its too late, here are the chords,
words and a description of the body motions. If anyone wants me to email
them an MP3, please let me know, I'd be happy to do so!
Here's the text to the song with some guitar chords:

D A D G
We grow, we grow we grow.
Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu
Tu Tu...Tu'B'shvat...
Tree, Tree, Tree, Tree, Tree.....Tu'B'shvat
On my Birthday
We eat a lot.
On her birthday
Is Tu B'shvat!
Also, here are the ever-important body motions to the chorus parts of this
song:
"We grow, we grow..." -- During this part, I have kids start out by making
themselves into tiny seeds by dropping down and making wrapping themselves
into a ball to be as small as possible for the first "we grow", and then
they make themselves into saplings (or half-trees) by kind of squatting and
putting their arms out bent for the second "we grow", and then I have them
make themselves into big tall trees with arms up high for the third "we
grow" and the last "we grow" is to transition back to the seed again...
"Tu tu tu..." -- During this part, I have kids start kind of squatted, and
then shake their hands in front of them really low down, and through each
"Tu" they get a little higher and a little higher until by the end they are
BIG TALL TREES again! :)
"Tree! Tree! Tree!" -- During this part, every time you yell tree, you have
to make yourself into the craziest shaped tree anyone has ever seen, and
hold that position until you yell "Tree!" again (WARNING: This is very fun
for kids.) I sort of think of it as "vogue-ing like a tree". The key here
is that there are lots of different shaped trees all over the world, and we
can appreciate that by trying to be like them... Together, we can become a
wild and wackiest forest of kids...
The verses are sung as a call-and-response, with no body motions (yet)...
Happy Tree-ing!
