Hello all:
I made a big boo-boo on my last posting, and I hope we can all learn from my
mistake!
When we send e-mail to this listserv, it does not get immediately bounced to
each individual mail box, but rather it gets sent out with a bunch of other
e-mails sent from this listserver. When we send things that are
"web-friendly" or HTML format, the listservers don't seem to like getting
all the extraneous information (such as text font, color, underscoring, and
spacing). When we receive mail that is formatted for HTML, we get a whole
bunch of symbols and spaces that we don't need (like
this):
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Boston Biennial </TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Greetings Everyone!<BR>
<BR>
I am so pleased to be thumbing through the finished version of the
"Complete Notated <I>Shireinu</I>," which will be made available
in a few short weeks. I want to publicly laud thanks and praises to
Transcontinental Music and its staff of people working so hard to make
composers and the publication of their music a priority. We should
especially give a "shout-out" to Joel Eglash, Erik Komar, and
others who have put much time and effort into "getting it done, and
done right."<BR>
That was an example of what we don't like to read through.
If we take the time to do two simple things, I think everyone will be happy
in the long run.
1) make sure you are not resending the original text of the message in
your
response. Take the time to erase the original message, so we don't have to
read through the same e-mails multiple times.
2) make sure that your e-mail is formatted to be sent as plain text,
rather
than HTML. HTML is great for companies that like to send pictures, web
links, and special documents through e-mail. For us regular Joes, it just
bogs down the page... especially on a listserver.
Once again, I apologize for sending an e-mail in HTML. I don't think I'll be
doing it again.
Be well, and I hope to hear from you individually very soon,
Cantor Brad Hyman
