Dear Linda,
There are a couple of superb books available for five year olds.
"Jewish Songs in Five-Finger Position" by Robert Shultz, and a collection of
Jewish Favorites published by Bastien and edited by Ylda Novak. The Bastien
book is suitable for kids competing in the National Federation of Piano
Teachers Festival held in every state during mid-February. There is a
category called "Hymn Playing" whose required pieces consist of endless
Christian hymns along with about 3 selections (yippee!) of Jewish songs from
the Bastien book.

My daughter (age 5) is taking piano lessons. Her teacher was looking for
some Chanukah music, age and ability appropriate, and was very surprised
that
it was so difficult to find what she called "graded" Jewish holiday music.
I
thought I'd query the list to see if anyone is aware of such type music to
be
used in teaching piano? (She did find The Dreydl Song and Chanukah,
Chanukah, and the music includes drawings of dreydls and musical notations,
very cute and readable for a 5 year old).
Thanks for any suggestions you have.
