[HANASHIR:10194] L'cha Dodi pronunciation

A disagreement broke out last night at my choir rehearsal regarding 
pronunciation of two words in L'cha Dodi.  They wanted to know why, in the 
chorus (L'cha dodi likrat kala), bride is spelled with a kaph and is pronounced 
"kala" whereas it is spelled with a chaph in the Bo-i V'Shalom verse when we 
sing "bo-i chala".  

The second issue was on the pronunciation of the word "balah" (husband) in the 
Bo-i V'Shalom verse.  The choir members who know and use modern Hebrew insisted 
it should be "ba-alah", which is actually how the transliteration is in Gates 
of Prayer for Assemblies.  I would tend to read the ayin as silent, but am 
willing to be corrected.  My Hebrew grammar course hasn't prepared me to answer 
these questions yet.  Can anyone clarify?
