I will soon be coaching pre-B'nai Mitzvah kids for the first time. Since I
will be working one-on-one with kids who may be under pressure for various
reasons, including academic difficulties and getting a late start, I would love
to hear about any teaching "tricks" or memory devices which have worked well.
For example, I have noticed that some teachers use colours, but I am not sure
exactly how. At this point our school is not teaching kids to read trope
symbols, but rather to memorize the melody of the assigned text. Since I am
not a classroom teacher, I have to go with this method. I cannot always refer
to my own educational experience since I am self-taught using the UAHC Art of
Torah Cantillation and other home-study materials, so would welcome input.
Thanks,
Rachelle Shubert
