[HANASHIR:9960] Re: nthems

Raquel and all:
I do not personally like the term "anthem" because to me it says "church". I
have always just termed it "solo". I believe the purpose is to give the
congregation a chance to reflect back on the Rabbi's words and to give the
Rabbi a chance to "regroup" before the continuation of the service. I have
found it difficult to tie a solo into MY Rabbi's sermons because they are
frequently political in nature and do not reflect necessarily on the Torah
reading he has just completed.

I take that time after the sermon to use a piece from the Sounds of Torah
series (Soundswrite)to enhance the Torah reading or to introduce a new piece
of music or just to sing something for the congregation that I think will
aid their engagement in worship. Maybe "my time to shine" although I tend
not to try to look at it in that way.

I seem to have gotten carried away with "". Sorry!

Anyway, my two cents worth. Hope all had good holidays!
