[HANASHIR:9828] Re: Spiritual Energy/Spirtual Light

I was using the "light a candle thing" but not at all suggesting that Shabbos
candles be used for a memorial candles, memorial services or anything to do
with memorials. It would be totally contrary to the halacha to make a bracha
on a Shabbos candle and use it at all, let alone to then view it as a
memorial candle. I think that even those who view halacha on various levels
can see the difference in these two lights. Although we are all, shaken, for
lack of a better word, I know tonight many of us will face our communities
for the first time collectively since this happened. I work in a school and I
have had to deal with my folks since it started, keep cool and calm for the
kids and go home to talk to an adult. As one who has "been on" all week I
can almost compare it to G-d forbid, sitting shiva. After an intense,
emotional week, dealing with this loss, talking to people about it, sharing
stories, being brought down and then up, and then down again, waking up
every morning and hoping for a second that maybe it was a dream...now comes
Shabbos. Halacha says there is no mourning on Shabbos..ever, for anyone.
Mourners get up, go to the synagogue, rejoin and gain strength from the
community. If I could humbly suggest that for those of us who are seeing our
communities for the first time tonight and have no choice but to deal with
this, please keep in mind this small concept in halacha. If I worked in a
congregational setting I would try to move my congregation tonight from Shiva
to Shabbos. Sorry for rambling. Keep smiling. Over and out, Herst

"Anyone who says this is not an intelligence failure is blowing smoke. This
is an intelligence failure and a security failure," said Lt. Gen. (ret.)
William Odom, former head of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the
former head of US Army intelligence. "The security guys will blame it on the
intelligence guys and the intelligence guys will tell us the great successes
they had in the past."
