[HANASHIR:9815] Re: stranded in NY

Hi all - I seem to be stranded in NY like millions of others - and am trying
to get back to Montreal - at least by Sunday for the chaggim. I thought I
would try a relay approach - see if I can find colleagues who would drive a
bit of the way en route - even if I only get to Albany where I do have some
friends.
At the moment I am staying with a wonderful CAJE colleague with whom I did a
workshop last month on Taking a Holiday, Paint it, Write it, sing it, Dance
it - with Aliya Cotel (dance), Gwen (art)and Joy Rosenberg (storytelling)
My older daughter Shira, my Sabra has just begun studying at the Art
Institute in Chicago and won't be able to get back to Montreal, my younger
daughter who lives in Brooklyn, works in Manhattan just next to the WTCs is
stranded in Montreal - makes me feel great about that at least. She works for
the Human Rights organization, WITNESS, and had just gotten back from Turkey,
stopping off in Montreal before returning to Newark airport. Her office is
still sealed off.
So I am looking for people to adopt Shira in Chicago for the holidays - and
brainstorm with me creative ways to travel. I want to avoid airports, train
stations and bus stations. HA HA!
It is all so incredible - bringing me tunneling back to being in Israel for
my 8 1/2 years from 1966 - end of '74, witness to two wars and an intifada -
the daily hardships and joys of living as an Israeli artist. The pain and
horror of witnessing friends, family and colleagues lose loved ones, the
scars that never quite heal - the vision that is no longer innocent.
And if I don't get home to Montreal, then I would love to find a service that
I can connect to.
My thoughts and prayers go to all who are living through this horrendous
unfolding of a terrible milestone - the first war in the 21st century. May we
all find peace.
