[HANASHIR:9311] Religious School Songs from Hava Nashira

I played "The Counting Song" and "Torah Sheli" at the Saturday afternoon
sharing session for religious schools. Here's the lyrics to both songs:

THE COUNTING SONG

Words and Music by Chuck Mitchell

Mara, Jacob, Abby, Ben,
All know how to count to ten.
Lauren, Ryan, Natalie,
Can you count as fast as me?
We can count in Hebrew, too.
That’s what Jewish children do.
Sing the counting song with me.
Never, ever start on three.

Echad, shteim, shalosh, arbah,
Hamesh, shesh, shevah, shmone,
Tesha, eser.
That’s the counting song.

Jennifer and Zachary
Count to ten so beautifully.
Daniel, Hanna, Sophie, Chris,
Count it really fast like this.
But if we sing it Jewish-ly,
Can you go as fast as me?
Take a breath or you’ll turn blue.
Make sure you don’t start on two.

CHORUS

Laura, Sarah, Max and Joe,
Count in Hebrew like a pro.
Travis, Corey, Brandon, Kate,
Now do Hebrew – make it great.
That’s amazing – good for you.
No one’s face is turning blue.
One more time, before we’re done.
Don’t forget to start with one.

CHORUS

TORAH SHELI

(to the tune of  “Stand By Me”)

On the day He came
To that mountain top,
Some were speechless.
Some were skeptics.
Did not see.
Then a boy, little boy,
Threw his hands up high.
Singing God gave the Torah right to me.
And thank you, thank you.
Torah Sheli.  TorahSheli. Torah, Torah Sheli.

Many years have passed
Many dor-va-dor.
And that mountain
May have crumbled
To the sea.
But it’s yours,
You were there.
So the story goes.
Sing it: God gave the Torah right to me.
And thank you, thank you …

When the night has come;
Children tucked in bed.
Think of seeds.
How they grow
Into trees.
Tell your kids.
So they know
It’s their story, too.
Sing it: God gave the Torah right to me.
And thank you, thank you …
