[HANASHIR:9154] Re: halacha against instrumentation



I think there is a qualitative a difference between things some DO to mourn 
the destruction of the Temple (break a glass at a wedding, go to the Kotel, 
observe Tisha B'av) and things some DON'T do (such as use instruments in 
Shabbat worship).  For instance, if we didn't eat matzah INSTEAD of bread at 
Passover, I think it would be a much less effective ritual.

But, the one thing we are unlikely to achieve is CONSISTENCY.  Across 
movements, and within movements, even within Congregations, there are 
differing opinions as to what should and shouldn't be done.
