[HANASHIR:9115] Re: halacha against instrumentation

According to orthodox interpretation of halacha, the answer is no.
The fence around the Torah, in such interpretations, is no different from what it's been constructed to protect.

By the way, the prohibition against playing on Shabbat is easy to confuse with the "no instruments in synagogue services" custom, which is a recognition that we're no longer in the Temple in Jerusalem.
They're not the same.

I have to think there's more than the reasons brought up by Andy and Adrian.
For example, if playing guitar is not my "business," if I have the guitar
properly tuned and in place before Shabbat, and if I use a 12-string guitar
to alleviate the grief of a broken string, am I within the limits?

I don't know, I'm asking.
