[HANASHIR:8675] Re: Learning to Songlead!

Well said Josh! I find in my travels that I come up against many young and
not so young people who feel that just because they can strum a few chords,
they are ready to stand up and present... theu are indeed doing it with a
wonderful sense of altruism perhaps, and a genuine desire to share newly
acquired info/skills. However - they are doing us all a great disservice in
further turning kids and adults off Jewish music when they haltingly, grind
out the music.
Le - havdil (on the contrary) I truly admire the many songleaders out there
who lovingly take songs they painstakingly learn and perfect - and imbue them
with fresh enthusiasm, spirit and energy. They are doing much to spread our
culture - and the work of our many wonderful composers - past and
contemporary.
It is important to treat it all with respect - music is the greatest tool for
conveying our heritage and linking us. In short -just as teachers need lesson
plans - and work hard at preparation, be prepared before getting up
there!!!! Not everyone is a songleader - no matter how pure the intent.
