[HANASHIR:8650] choir in the aisle

<In an effort to reach out to the congregation in our large, high-ceilinged
sanctuary, I thought we would try making an entrance from the back of the
sanctuary, singing our opening song in the center aisle while mounting the
bimah. >

Definitely!
Been there, done that. If the music is good it can be very effective. Sets
the mood and get's everybody into the service right off the bat. Matter of
fact, the rabbi and I begin our service this way every Friday night.
Churchy? I wouldn't worry about it. The Hineni has been chanted this way by
many traditional cantors for a long long time. Not only nice for the
congregation but almost sure to have a positive impact on your own kavanah.
Go for it and then let us know how it made you/your choir feel.

Hatzlacha rabah,
David Sirull
