In response to both of Karen's questions...
A very easy song to teach to the whole age span that you mentioned is Debbie
Friedman's "Kaddish DeRabban." The kids love singing it, and I have used it
very appropriately to honor both Rabbis and teachers, depending on the
occasion. I think it is more than fitting to honor an ed. director (this
opinion is coming from a Cantor/Educational Director).
As for songs to demonstrate the Aleph year and Hebrew language learning - you
might want to look at "Af Peh Ozen" by Jeff Klepper (and Dan Freedlander
too?). It is in the big yellow "Kol B'Seder" songbook. Also, Tara puts out
a nice songbook, I think entitled Hebrew through Song, which has some oldies,
but goodies. There is also a wonderful new songbook and CD, I think called
"Ivrit B'Shir" by Ronit Ben Arie, which is full of contemporary songs for
Jewish children on many subjects, almost all in simple, but very correct
Hebrew. The songbook also contains activities to complement the music.
Either Tara or Soundwrite carries it.
