[HANASHIR:8247] Hey, Mon...

> "Hey Man" was written by Cantor Stephen Richards, not Jeff
> Klepper. It is a really fun song - even the older kids seem to like it.

Indeed. Steve Richards was one of my professors at HUC in the late 70s. One
day we sat down and he introduced me to some of his more pop-style Jewish
tunes. The minute I heard his "Purim Calypso" (the original title) I knew
it was a winner. Dan and I arranged the song, playing off the reggae "Hey,
Mon" attitude. We recorded it in 1981 on Kol B'seder's live "Shalom Rav"
record, and the rest is history.

We redid the song for our "Growin' vol 2" tape, and I'm happy to report that
the two Growin' cassettes are about to be released on *one* CD by
Transcontinental, and available wherever fine Jewish music is sold...

Speaking of CDs and Transcontinental, the brand new "Ruach 5761" CD of "New
Jewish Tunes" contains 15 new and new-ish songs by the likes of Dan Nichols,
Craig Taubman, Debbie Friedman, Steve Dropkin, Beth Schafer, Cantor Wally,
Rick Recht, Mah Tovu, Peri Smilow, Danny Maseng, Julie Silver, and yours
truly. It's a great collection of tunes that kids are singing or will be
singing soon. It just came out in honor of the huge NFTY convention in L.A.
(which concludes tomorrow!) and it's available from the Transcontinental
Music web site. http://www.eTranscon.com/
