[HANASHIR:7935] Re: baby naming dilemma

Perhaps what they are looking for is something that everyone will understand,
i.e. something in English as opposed to in Hebrew. Debbie Friedman's "Lechi
Lach" is mostly in English and is a beautiful expression of thoughts for a new
daughter (it can be sung lechi lach throughout). So is Craig Taubman's "Sh'ma
B'ni" which can be changed to "Shimi Biti" and sung that way throughout as
well. I have heard "Sweet Survivor" sung at a daughter's baby naming. Carol
King has a beautiful song called, "So Glad You are a Child of Mine", and
another called, "Someone Who Believes in You", both sure to elicit the emotions
and promises they are seeking.

Hope this helps,

My friends have asked me to sing at their daughter's baby naming. I agreed,
figuring I'd sing the usual fare - Friedman, Isaacson stuff. Tonight they
told me they want me to sing a secular song that everyone would know. They
suggested THANK HEAVEN FOR LITTLE GIRLS!!!! UGH! (OK, you can all stop
    laughing now!)
Anyone have a suggestion of a decent secular song or how to handle this
    situation?
    Thank you -
