Penny - If you're teaching to K-1-2, I would never use word sheets in either
hebrew or english. HOpefully the songs you're teaching don't have too many
words, and if they do, you can teach them the chorus and you can sing the
verse. Many times I'll use signing so that they can truly understand the
meaning of the hebrew word and that will help them remember the hebrew. If
I don't use signing I'll use some rhythmic movement or motion. Always,
always teach them the meaning of the words or phrase before you begin, talk
about the meanings, ex., if you're teaching "Shabbat Kodesh," and you have
to sing..... "Nerot, challot, yayin l'kiddush, ha-kol, ha-kol, ha-kol,
lich-vod Shabbat........" to some that may seem like a long line of words
for a 5 or 6 year old, but when they realize they're walking through the
ritual of welcoming shabbat, it gets easier by the 2nd time! They'll catch
on after just a few tries! Good luck.
