[HANASHIR:7324] Re: Music Educators Institute (MEI)

The reason for these problems is because songleaders are not certified,
licensed music educators who know the proper methodology of teaching music. I
was in that position when I was a songleader and now that I am a certified
teacher, I am horrified that anyone let me teach music or called me a music
teacher back then.

Sometimes synagogues are desparate. Which is why I got hired.

I got called just a few weeks before the school year -- they needed a song-leader/teacher and they had no leads except that someone had told them that I sang and play guitar.

"Well, yes," I said, "I do, and it sounds like fun, but I have absolutely no teaching experience, and haven't even had anything to do with any synagogue's religious school in almost 30 years."

I got the job.

That was a few months ago. So, I've been listening on the list, reading and listening to what I can, and hope to attend the MEI conference.
