I don't get paid in my congregation either. So it is not a NZ thing.
However, I am taking my first out of congregation "gig" and will receive a
stipend. Margie Hilton

I love these replies! In NZ we don't get paid at all - but then we don't
expect to, since our congregations (all 3 of them!) are small both in
numbers and in $$, and everything that is done for the shuls (apart from a
part-time secretary) is voluntary.
Ps we do pay the rabbi, but not at US rates!! by you, he'd also be working
for free!
Just a cultural difference I thought I'd mention.

I don't walk out of the door for less than TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS.
(consequently, I'm home a lot)
But seriously, Songleaders at synagogues make anywhere from $20 - $50
an hour depending on your experience, how many hours you're working,
the budget of the temple to pay a song leader, etc...I'd suspect the
average is somewhere in the middle to higher end of that range.
You can also expect to be paid a separate flat rate for things like
Weekend camp retreats, and again, for these, I wouldn't take any less
than TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!...sorry...got a little excited there....
