Dear Evette (and my other HN friends), After much looking for appropriate songs for the Welcoming/Naming Service for my own conversion back in January, and coming up empty handed with songs that I felt really fit, I've begun writing some myself. Now you must realize that I didn't know what Hava Nashira was back then, so as soon as I send this e-mail there will be 20 postings from people who have suggestions for you (and would have had for me, if I had only known)!!! And I'm looking forward to hearing all of them! This is obviously a subject near and dear to my heart! Most of my compositions aren't "ready for prime time", but I did share the attached song with a few people at HN and had promised that I'd get them a copy of it, so now I can fulfill that requirement and share it with you and "a few" others at the same time. It is more of a personal song - not really a blessing song - I sang it for my congregation instead of doing a 5 minute speech - but if you share the lyrics with her and it touches her or covers her story too in some way, I would be more than happy to share the music also (in the cryptic version that it's currently in...something else to add to my summer to-do list...). I have another friend that is converting in September that I am currently working on a "Song of Welcome" for, but it's not very far along. If I get some inspiration this weekend, I'll pass that along. Anyone else interested in conversion related music, contact me at my home e-mail (listed below) and we can talk off-line. Also, Carol Boyd Leon had requested the song that Craig had done about giving love away. We corresponded through a couple of days trying to find it. It is also attached here - he did it as an intro to the Songs of Love. He did it in the key of D, but I did it last week in the key of A (so that's what you're stuck with here) for a JCC preschool graduation. Perfect for teachers and kids - well, everybody for that matter! (Alright Adrian, did I mess up copyrite wise but putting this out there?? - You have so much to teach us!) Thank you to all of you who were so warm and wonderful at HN, and to those of you who were distant, and to those who helped me with my Hebrew, and to those who understood why I was crying (ever put a lifetime of Jewish Camp experience in 4 days?) and those who have helped me find a home in and through Jewish Music. Unfortunately now I have to get back to work (non-music related stuff)... Love and Hugs, Gayle Joseph Work e-mail: gjoseph (at) mtnlakes(dot)org (only until August 1st - YEAH!!!) Hello - I am brand new to this list. Wow, what a wealth of information you all share with each other! I have an adult naming ceremony coming up for a recently converted woman. Do any of you have suggestions for songs the Congregation and I could sing in celebration or blessing? Thanks for your help.
