[HANASHIR:5986] Re: Edelweiss at a Bat Mitzvah service

There are two reasons to refuse to do this:

1) it is inappropriate to make a bar/bat mitzvah into a dog & pony
show by singing (imho) irrelevant and secular songs at sacred events.
they already have a rather secular & quite base reception following.
one does not have to lower the bar (no pun intended) of the religious
ceremony--it's already being done by the Max Goldberg Dancers & the
glitzy dj anyhoo...

2) you do it for one, you will have to do it for all. simple slippery
slope stuff. do you want to be singing every request at every
ceremony to follow? no thanks... where does one draw the line? "Uh,
i'd like my son to have his favorite song, 'If I Had a Million
Dollars," by the Barenaked Ladies, as it talks about his hope for
more bar mitzvah money..." I can see it now... oy.

sorry for the brief rant... it's late/early...
