These songs are a hit at all of the seders I do. They are written by a
local rabbi and his children. He has given me permission to send them out
into cyberspace, so you are welcome to copy them. They are great.

The Seder Rap
Now come and listen to our Pesach story,
It's all about G-d in His amazing glory;
The Egyptian people were not very nice
So they got punished with a lot of lice.
They went to the Nile and thought they saw mud,
But when they got closer they saw that it was blood.
The winds blew from Heaven a terrible gale
And then before they knew it there was golf-size hail.
The sun turned dark, at day there was gloom
The Egyptians just sat there, boy did they fume!
They awoke one morning and the frogs were all hoppin'
They knew that this G-d wasn't interested in stoppin'.
We slaughtered a lamb, put the blood on the doorpost,
The Egyptians no longer wanted to be our host.
We were thrown out of Egypt, our bread didn't rise
The dough turned into matzah - what a surprise!
The story every year we tell at our Seder
That's all for this year - we'll see you later!

Yearning to be Free

Pharaoh's Part:
Oh, I am lord and master of the whole world,
I rule the earth, the sun, the land, the sea,
No other god I recognize or follow,
And I expect that every person worship me.
Come Shifrah and come Puah now, I urge you,
My orders are most likely to be news,
I cannot stop those Hebrews from increasing,
So you must kill all the males who're born to Jews.
Narration: Shifrah and Puah refused to follow Pharaoh's orders. So
Pharaoh commanded all of the Egyptians to cast any newborn Hebrew male into
the Nile. Moses' mother but him in a basket on the Nile, and Pharaoh's
daughter raised him as hers. Time passed, and after seeing the terrible
way the Israelites were treated, Moshe went to Pharoah, saying:
Moshe's Part:
You think you own the people of a great G-d,
That Jews are just some slaves that you can claim,
But we are all created in G-d's image,
We have a life, we have a ruach (spirit) and a name.
You think the only people who are people,
Are the people that want to worship you,
But if you walk the footsteps of our people,
You will learn just how it is to be a Jew.
Have you ever heard the people crying all day long,
Have you ever felt the whip, the lash, the chain,
Take a look at all the faces of the people,
They are colored with the tears that come from pain.
So Pharoah be assured that you will fail soon.
Our G-d will not permit you long to reign,
Those others will arise like you tomorrow,
In the end their mighty acts will be in vain.
Have you ever heard the people crying all day long,
Have you ever felt the whip, the lash, the chain,
Take a look at all the faces of the people,
They are colored with the tears that come from pain.
I Just Can't Wait to be Free
(To the tune of "I Just Can't Wait to be King" from The Lion King)
by Rabbi Hayim Herring (1995
Throw away those rusty chains,
>From Egypt we will go;
Drop that nasty whip right now,
In freedom we will grow;
I can be a Jew again,
of that I'm really proud!
I can pray to G-d all day,
I'm goin' to sing out LOUD!
No one to say, "Move that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Lift that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Haul that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Push that!" (UGH)
Out from old Mitzrayim today,
to Eretz Yisrael we're on our way!
When Pharoah saw those mighty plagues,
At first he would not give;
Because that stubborn heart of his,
His first born did not live;
But I won't lift a brick no more,
To build a pyramid,
'Cause I can be just who I am,
I'm proud to be a Yid!
No one to say, "Move that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Lift that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Haul that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Push that!" (UGH)
Out from old Mitzrayim today,
to Eretz Yisrael we're on our way!
Each year when it's Seder time,
Our story we relive;
Matzah, maror, and hallel,
Our thanks to G-d we give;
But when we're with our families,
and hear our history;
We must remember we're not done,
For not all yet are free!
No one to say, "Move that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Lift that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Haul that!" (UGH)
No one to say, "Push that!" (UGH)
Out from old Mitzrayim today,
to Eretz Yisrael we're on our way!
The Afikoman Song
(To the tune of "Whole New World" from the movie Aladdin)
by Rabbi Hayim Herring (1994
If you'll open your eyes,
You will certainly find it,
On the 'fridge or behind it,
Or underneath the chair.
Hard and dry as some wood,
It does easily crumble,
Like our people so humble,
We're lucky to be free.
A half a piece,
My afikoman -- it's so good!
And if you'll tell me now,
Just where it is,
We'll finish up our Seder like we should.
Pop it into your mouth,
You will soon hear some crunchin'
Endlessly you'll be munchin'
And wishing for a drink.
A half a piece,
My afikoman -- it's so good!
And if you'll tell me now,
Just where it is,
We'll finish up our Seder like we should.
